You have probable been wondering where I disappeared too but I’m still here. Life just got in the way. I have so much to update you with which I’ll be doing over the next few posts.
One of the things I’ve been working on is my final assignment for ProGen. It’s hard to believe that ProGen is nearly over and all of us have come so far since we first signed up nearly eighteen months ago.
My final assignment is a Family Narrative which I’m writing on my Maternal Great Grandfather, William Ernest LATHAM. It’s actually been quite a heartbreaking account to write filled with trauma and abuse, and I’m hoping to do something further with it down the track. It’s also brought up other ideas for future research projects. That’s the thing with Family History, there’s always other shiny objects you want to chase up, but you have to remain focused on the task at hand. So instead, what I find myself doing is keeping a list of future projects.
Last week I also visited the ruins of Kenmore Mental Asylum, the final resting place of Frances ELMS (nee STEVENS), my Paternal Second Great Grandmother. Another tragic story there to be told and more details to come.
I was also lucky enough to do a behind the scenes tour of NSW State Records last week so I’ll share that adventure with you in a future post.
As well, my weekly radio show, Talking With The Ancestors on Radio Blue Mountains 89.1 started since I last posted. It was going to be called In Conversation With The Ancestors but had a name change the morning of the first broadcast. It’s been fun to not only share Family History news but also play some of my favourite tracks and talk about the stories behind the songs.
So there’s been a lot going on but all things that warm my heart.
Until next time,
